In a meeting today, held at Dooars Kanya, in the presence of members from ACT (Association for Conservation & Tourism), BIFA (Bhutan-India Friendship Association), CII (Confederation of Indian Industries), Young Indians, Falakata Town Club, several local tourism associations, clubs and schools, presided over by the DM, R.Bimla Ji and attended by the District administration officials from block to district level, to discuss the 2nd edition of the Dooars Monsoon 25 K Marathon & Tourism Festival. It was decided that this year, the festival will be for 3 days, August 8th, 9th & 10th, and will organize 3 sustainable events, marathon, cycling, and rowing (nouka baich). It was also proposed to add Boroli festival for food and RI mela for the handicraft, handloom, and micro entrepreneurs. The local folk culture and food will remain as the main attraction. Raj Basu, the Chairman of the Ecotourism subcommittee, Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal, proposed the above. Dasho Thinlay Dorjee Gundu confirmed all support from BIFA, Bhutan. Sanjit Saha, past Chairman of CII, confirmed all support for the festival and proposed a Kachra Marathon (clean-up event) at the end.
The President of the meeting, DM, R.Vimla Madam, confirmed all support of the district administration and suggested that multiple committees to be formed for every event of the festival and requested her officers to work at the ground level and confirm participation of local institutions and people. She also expressed her gratitude to the BIFA members for their continuous support. Mithun Sarkar of Jaldapara Resort Owners Association confirmed that they will partner the festival with all cooperation as this would bring maximum support to the tourism and hospitality stakeholders of Dooars. Tannistha Rakshit of ACT took the responsibility to coordinate the formation of committees. Sumant Agarwal of YI (Young Indians) presented the link online, and DM Madam was the first to register through the link. The posters of the festival were also unveiled by the members present.
